There are people in this world who skip naps. Who say things like "I don't really nap, it makes me feel worse" or "I just push through" and then continue on with their day as if they didn't just admit something deeply concerning about themselves. These people exist. They are not who this is for.
This is for the other kind. The ones who schedule around the nap. Who, at 11am, are already doing the mental math to figure out if the 2pm window is still available or if something has threatened it. The ones who can be mid-conversation and clock an opportunity, a quiet house, a free hour, a couch in exactly the right patch of afternoon light, and feel their entire body shift into standby mode before a conscious decision has even been made.

The power napper doesn't just lie down. They prepare. The phone goes face down. The blinds hit the right angle. The blanket situation is assessed and optimized. There is a pillow arrangement that has been refined over years of trial and error and it is not up for negotiation. The alarm is set for exactly the right amount of time, not a minute less, not a minute more, because the power napper knows that the difference between 22 minutes and 27 minutes is the difference between waking up refreshed and waking up confused about what year it is.

And the defense of the nap is fierce. Cancel plans, sure. Reschedule meetings, fine. But suggest that maybe today isn't a nap day and you will meet a version of this person you were not prepared for. The nap is not a luxury. It is maintenance. It is the reason the afternoon is survivable. It is, as far as the power napper is concerned, the single most productive thing they will do between noon and dinner.
Science, for once, is fully on their side. Twenty minutes of sleep in the afternoon improves alertness, mood, and cognitive function in ways that a second coffee simply cannot replicate. The power napper knew this before the studies came out. The power napper has always known.
Set your alarm. Optimize the pillow. The nap window is open and it will not be there forever.
