Family members tend to extend plenty of sympathy toward their relatives after they become young parents. If they're nearby, they might volunteer to assist however they can. The problem here is not necessarily that the author wasn't paid for all the babysitting she did for her nephew. She was happy to do that for free. It was that she wasn't compensated for the broken work laptop that needed to be replaced imminently after her nephew destroyed it just for fun.

To answer the author's question about whether or not she did anything wrong, we have a simple answer for her: No. In fact, this insistence that she won't be taken for granted is the start of her doing something right. As easy as it may be to dismiss the sister's actions as a reflection of how overwhelmed she has been as a parent, that should not excuse disrespect. If she needs help, she needs to also be thoughtful.
