'This just feels like bad timing': Family finds wandering kittens on the streets but question whether to keep them since they have an elderly cat, internet steers them in the right direction to broaden the family

It's seasonable to question what's best for yourself, your family, or the pets you currently have. And in this situation, there's steps to be made in a direction that could help everyone here.

This person was outside doing yard work when they saw a trail of two kittens following a mom and her son. They were meowing and distracting the person from doing the yard work, and the mom didn't seem to want to be involved, so the person decided to take the kittens in himself. They were friendly and sweet and seemed like they're used to being with people, which means they were probably abandoned. She brought them to her home and put them in a room alone so that they wouldn't be around the other pets. They look clean and about 10 weeks old, a calico and a black cat who are bonded.

The caveat is that the couple already has two cats and a dog, and one of the cats is 16-years-old, and they're not sure how she'll react to two new kittens. It took quite a long time for the elderly cat to become adjusted to the younger one, so they worry it will be the same with the kittens. They fear they'll have to keep the kittens since the shelters and full due to it being kitten season. They don't want to walk away from these kittens, so they'll have to adjust to the situation they have. They ask the internet for wholesome advice on what to do, and the internet comes in strong with a solution they didn't think of.

It's never easy to introduce cats, regardless of their age. I know that for my 5-year-old cat, he would have a really hard time adjusting to a new kitten. He's pretty temperamental and needy. He requires a lot of time and energy, it's never enough for him. So I couldn't imagine having the responsibility of giving him all that he needs as well as a new kitten.
