If there is anything to learn from cats on counters, it is to never give up on yourself. Cats really do not care how many times somebody says get down. They believe in their ability to get right back up there every single time. Pure confidence. Pure determination. No fear of failure. A cat can be removed from the counter fifty times and still come back for attempt number fifty-one like success is inevitable. That level of persistence is just inspiring.

Cats will always believe they belong on the counter no matter how many times they get told otherwise. You can move them off a hundred times, block the area, give speeches about kitchen hygiene, none of it matters. In their minds, the counter is simply part of their kingdom and they are entitled to full access.

One of a cat’s favorite hobbies is absolutely throwing things off counters for no reason at all. Cups, pens, hair ties, receipts, absolutely anything within paw reach immediately becomes a target. Then they stare directly at the object while slowly pushing it closer to the edge like tiny furry supervillains building suspense on purpose. The best part is how satisfied cats always look after hearing something crash onto the floor.
