No matter which way you slice it, this is pretty obsessive behavior. While I understand a parent's desire to care for and protect their offspring, there comes a time when your “protection” is more of a curse than a blessing. I'd wager that once your kid is old enough to buy their own groceries, study philosophy in a college classroom, and live with a roommate, it's about time the parents bud out of the situation.
Yet, these helicopter parents refused to accept that their little girl was growing up. Instead of gracefully letting go of the reins, they held on even tighter, squeezing the rebellion right out of their daughter and forcing her to push back most impressively. With a level head and cool wisdom at her back, she formulated a completely irrefutable argument, making her parents question everything they thought they knew about good parenting, privacy, and blatant surveillance.

Parents have a weird way of becoming extremely childish once their grown-up children start acting more adult than them. Without the dynamic of “mom's always right” or “dad knows best” behind their arguments, suddenly they lack the critical thinking skills to assess their kid's needs effectively. This teenager, luckily, knew exactly what she needed… And her future wasn't going to involve being GPS tracked by her parents. It was time to cut loose.
