Some people respond to a crisis by filing paperwork, calling social services, and doing the unglamorous work of sorting out their own mess. Jessie was not that kind of person. 

The sequence of decisions here is genuinely impressive, so I, for one, am very glad this was shared with the world. The affair itself was bad enough, but the affair being with someone whose partner promptly forgave them is the kind of timing that suggests the universe has opinions. The backup housing plan dissolved before the breakup was even cold, which left Jessie in a situation entirely of her own making and apparently very surprised about it.

Being unfaithful, losing your housing, getting rejected by every landlord in the area, and refusing to fill out the paperwork for rental assistance because it is too much trouble are all choices that connect directly to each other. By the time the frantic text went out demanding to move into someone's multipurpose guest room with full pet entourage, every single step of the path there had been paved by Jessie personally. Nobody inflicted anything on anyone. The bridge and the car scenario was a rhetorical flourish applied to a situation that had multiple actual solutions available, all of which required effort.

Refusing to apply for rental assistance because it involves paperwork and then immediately asking to move into someone else's home is a very specific kind of logic that only works if you assume other people's time and space cost less than your own inconvenience. Social services exist specifically for situations like this. The application is annoying and slow and bureaucratic, and it is also the thing standing between you and stable housing for your kid.

Nina found someone trustworthy. Jessie found someone willing to absorb the chaos. The cats finally got their house back. Everyone ended up exactly where they belonged.
