Story of one stranded soaking wet kitten who taught a struggling cat lover that they had everything to live for, cat lover says: 'He rescued me from my own darkness'

When we say that cats are lifesavers, we mean that quite literally.

It's stories like this one, from Reddit's r/Cats community, that remind us why we love our job so much. You have to understand that we see quite literally hundreds of rescue stories per day, so you could say that we're a little jaded when it comes to these kinds of heartwarming tales. But this one reminds us of the true power of cats - the meowgical ability to help someone not only find love for something else, but love for themselves.

Our cat lover was ready to give up on life. The darkness had all but consumed them, but some tiny, desperate meows pierced through the darkness and found them. They got up and found the source of the meowing, a smol, shivering, soaked kitten hiding underneath a car on a rainy night. They took the kitten in to warm them up for the night, and as soon as it fell asleep on their chest and started purring, something changed in them. If they didn't look after this kitten, who would? If they gave up, what would happen to this purrecious, tiny thing?

This kitten saved their life, and they're not the only one to say that. Cats give people a reason to wake up every meowrning and a reason to come home every night. They force you to be responsible and stick to a schedule, and most impurrtantly, they give you love unlike anything you've ever expurrienced before. It's a beautiful thing. It's also a reminder that, despite all the darkness in the world, there is still light to lead us to hope, and if you're lucky, there's also a cute kitten to pick up along the way.

The Cat Distribution System truly does know it all. What are the odds of a tiny kitten finding its way within earshot of the exact purrson who needed them? We secretly think that cats have a sixth sense for knowing when people will be nice to them, how else would this kitten know to hide underneath their car instead of their neighbor's? This is why people say that getting a pet is good for people who are struggling with mental illness. Pets teach you to stick to a schedule, and if you can't find the power to take care of yourself, you still have to take care of them. And, by taking care of them, you slowly learn how to take care of yourself. It's a magical, beautiful, symbiotic relationship that we think everyone should expurrience at least once in their lives.
