A flea-covered stray cat with a raspy meow follows a family home from a plum-picking walk, but it quickly becomes clear she chose them on purpose

Most people come home from a fruit-picking walk with a basket of plums, not a cat.

A simple evening walk to pick plums turned into something much more memorable when a stray cat decided to tag along. Fans of Reddit's r/CatDistributionSystem subreddit will probably recognize the pattern immediately. One minute you're heading out for a relaxing walk, and the next a cat has chosen you and is following you home.

Somewhere between the plum trees and the walk back, the friendly feline decided she had found her people. She stuck close the entire time and happily followed the group all the way home. Once she arrived, she wasted no time making herself comfortable. By the end of the evening, she had already claimed a spot on the porch, several laps, and most of the household's attention.

It was obvious she hadn't had an easy time on her own. She was skinny, covered in fleas and scabs, and looked like she'd been fending for herself for quite a while. At the same time, she was unusually friendly for a stray cat. There was no hesitation, no lengthy trust-building process, and no interest in keeping her distance. She seemed perfectly content to walk into a stranger's life and act like she belonged there.

The cat's raspy, larger-than-life meow only added to her charm. Despite her rough appearance, she carried herself with the confidence of a cat who had already made up her mind about where she wanted to be. A closer look suggested she was still fairly young, making it even easier to imagine how different her future could look with a little care and stability.

A vet appointment is next, but one thing is clear. The cat affectionately nicknamed "Moldy Plum" didn't just follow a family home during an evening walk. She spotted her forever family and decided to escort them back to the house herself.

This cat definitely chose you. She could have followed anyone during that walk, but she made up her mind and stuck with it all the way home. Some cats spend days deciding whether a person is trustworthy. This one seemed to reach a decision in about five minutes. The porch, the laps, and the attention were all part of the plan.
