Dating is hard. A simple lack of communication can quickly escalate into something ugly, and these days, receipts of the fallout can often end up on TikTok for the whole internet to see.
On January 17, @katlyn_phipps shared screenshots of an exchange she had with a Hinge date (we'll call him Hinge guy). The text message starts with Hinge guy audaciously sending a request for $4 via Apple Pay. Rightfully confused, @katlyn_phipps responds, "So I just woke up. Why did you request $4?" Hinge guy replies, "I assume the 2nd try for breakfast is cancelled by now so that's for the coffee last week since it seems like we're never gonna go out again." @katlyn_phipps laugh-reacts the text. Hinge guy keeps going, "Really just don't understand what games you are trying to play." Games? Sir, you just requested $4 for coffee because you're resentful about a date not going as well as you'd hoped.
Gossip fanatics jumped into the comment section and demanded to see the rest of the conversation. In a follow-up video posted the next day, @katlyn_phipps provides a bit of context.
“I met this man on Hinge, we decided to get coffee…and he paid for it. He offered to pay for it, I did not ask him to. Then he kept wanting to see me, and I'm busy.”
She continues explaining that she made her situation clear to Hinge guy, “I was like, ‘well maybe this weekend, I don’t know. I just worked at the hospital 12-hour shifts.”
At the end of the video, @katlyn_phipps shares her thorough response to Hinge guy.
People in the comment section wanted to see what Hinge guy came back with after @katlyn_phipps' long-winded text. In a follow-up to the follow-up video, she obliges her followers but warns them that his response is “not that interesting.”
In the video, @katlyn_phipps shows another screenshot while she talks about what happened. “I didn't respond back to this, didn't think it was worth it. Kinda said what I needed to say.”
She also refutes Hinge guy's claim that she was the one who expressed a desire to hang out. “I think he made that part up in his head or he's just delusional because he asked me every single time to hang out” she explains.
While many were pleased with a bit of gossip, others encouraged @katlyn_phipps to stop responding to Hinge guy. “Don't give him any more satisfaction.” Says one TikToker, “You owe him nothing. You owe us nothing. Keep doing you and forget him. Anything you fire back, he won't get.”
Overall, the comment section resounded with words of support.
