Employee shares accommodation with boss for work trip, protests when his 3 kids join them: 'I can't live in these conditions'

Is it ever appropriate for work and family to mix?

It is hardly a secret that being a working parent can be difficult. The average full-time work schedule is not built with the need to do childcare in mind, and sourcing that childcare when you can't do it yourself can prove to be painstaking and expensive. Those parents who work in a role that doesn't give them the necessary level of flexibility are often put in a tough position.

That being said, if a mom or dad needs to work and also make sure that their kids are taken care of, they have no choice but to figure it out. After all, the salary is what allows them to maintain the children in the first place. While this may come with some sacrifice, that is just another part of parenthood. Any decent parent will put up with a less-than-ideal situation for their kids.

Much of the time, coworkers will have some sympathy with parents who are struggling with their childcare options, as they know that it is a difficult situation to be in. However, they will only have so much patience with the issue if it is consistently brought right to their doorstep, and it feels like they can't avoid the problem either.

  • An employee found themselves in a very uncomfortable situation when they went on a business trip to a different state with their boss. They were sharing their accommodation, and what they didn't realize was that the supervisor was bringing his three kids to stay with them.

    They quickly found out that the children were disruptive and were impeding on their ability to relax after work and progress with the trip as intended. They felt that this arrangement was inappropriate, and they wanted to know if there was anything they could do about it. At the same time, they didn't know if they would be overstepping if they did.

    Supervisor brought his kids to Airbnb

    My supervisor and I were sent to a different state, 10 hours away from home, to start a new factory for our company. The company is renting an AirBnB for us while we are here. I come back from vacation and now three of his daughters are living with us. One is a toddler, maybe 5 or 6, then the other two are 13 and 16.

    things on my computer, then she starts knocking on my door asking to eat my food. I pretended I was asleep. She kept this up for 20 minutes. After that the other two girls started fighting and it's all just yelling back and forth and the children won't listen to him.

    TCTX73 NOR, I'm wondering if mom didn't drop them on him. At any rate, it's inappropriate. My dad would have me come visit when he was working on site, but he always had his own room/accommodations.
