  • a woman shopping at a grocery store before a fellow customer confronts her about taking too many packs of ground beef for herself.
  • Am I the bad guy for buying 11 pounds of ground beef during a sale and not giving someone a package when there was none left?

For background, I eat a lot of ground beef and since it's been getting more expensive, I buy a bunch when it's on sale and I vacuum seal it and put it in my extra freezer. I
  • Ground beef, squeezed out of the package and into a pan.
  • currently have none left in my meat reserves, so when I saw the sale I wanted to stock up. The sale started yesterday and I went to the store and I found the ground beef that was on sale.
  • There were 8 packages that were 3-4lbs each. I took 3 packages and did the rest of my shopping. Near the end of the trip, I realized I forgot something and went back to get it. It was near the ground beef section.
  • I went to go get it and someone apparently saw the ground beef in my cart and came up to me. They were mad that I took all the ground beef and didn't leave any more for anyone else and that I am really ride for doing that. They wanted me to
  • give them one of my packs of meat and I just said no and walked away. When I got home I told my husband about the interaction and he asked why I didn't give them a package. I told him if they asked nicely, sure I would've given one up.
  • But after hearing them rant about me essentially being a meat hoarder and calling me r de, I didn't want to. Especially because I did not take all the packs, I took less than half that was there and the store was closing in less than an hour so I
  • SORRY CLOSED -PLEASE COME BACKAGAN-
  • assumed there was going to be restocked before opening the next day. He said I still should've given the person one of the packs and gone back another day to get more.
  • AITA for buying 11lbs of ground beef during a sale and not giving someone a package when there was none left?
  • rochugh there were 8 packages you took three and left 5 for others. NTA.
  • IceSeeker This. I think they're just mad that they didn't get there on time so they lashed out when they saw you. Like you said if only they've asked nicely, you would have given them some. That's on them. Their bad temper got them no meat.
  • PinxJinx Tbh there was probably more in the back. Sometimes there's only so much storage on the floor
  • Crackytacks And if they're out of a sale item you can get a raincheck
  • Flimsy-Draft7514 NTA I would rather starve than walk up to a stranger and demand what is in their cart. That is horrible social etiquette.
  • jensmith20055002 NTA - I would have responded, "there were 5 packs of meat when I left, if you hurry you can find the people who actually took the last one. Go get 'em." Yes, we live in a society, which means don't be r de. If you took ALL 8, of course you would be the ah le. You didn't
  • BrinyBrain Why would they be the a hole if they took all 8? Its a consumer market where if they want to pay for all 8 and all 8 are available they are perfectly allowed to. It isn't wasteful and its not like they're reselling.
  • ashgs872tbhjs -- Rudeness is not related to what's allowed you're always legally entitled to be rude, Imao (at least in the US). That said, it's definitely not rude. Bulk buying cheap items is great, and if you buy extra this time you'll either skip the next trip or buy less during it (etc.) so you're not having any net impact at all. Everyone already knows not to go to a sale late and expect to find it still in stock, and there's still a ton of other food in the store.
  • Routine-Nerve-9180 That sale might've been someone's only chance to eat beef that month. If you can afford 8 packages at once then you can afford to leave a few packages for others who may not be able to buy in bulk and who have to live off sales. It's common courtesy. Now obviously no one should be r de about it but if he took all 8 (which he didn't) he would've most definitely been a bit of an a le
  • Substantial_Key4640 No. Why should OP have to go through a list of imaginary 'what ifs' when at a sale deciding how many packs to pick up? The store set out a quantity that was open to anyone. No limits listed.
