Let's face it in 2026 kibble just does not cut it anymore. Meaning it is time we step up our pawrenting game and give our puppers meals that not only ensure physical wellness, but that also address mental stimulation. Which we proudly present to you with this collection of enrichment recipes.

Thanks to the knowledgeable pawrents and pawfessionals of Reddit's r/DogAdvice subreddit we were lucky enough to get our hands on some authentic homemade recipes that these hoomans have been prepawing for their puppers for a long time, and to great acclaim. These are the pawrents who have spent hours trialing, testing and throwing away things they made that did not pass pupper approval. They have put in the hard grind to make all our lives easier and our puppers' lives that much better. So cancel your online order of bulk kibble and have your grocery store list to hand so that you can make sure your pup is getting the very best out of life.

For those who want to start easy there are premade products such as baby food purees that work a treat when put on a lick mat. Providing decent nutrition for growing doggos as well as a good challenge to get to the tasty treat. For the creative pawrents there is the option to fill a balloon with bone broth and freeze it. Thereby creating a solid block of broth that your pupper can play with, cool down with and enjoy the medical benefits of. And for lovers of dairy who are not afraid of their home smelling like rotting milk there are a myriad of yogurts, soft cheeses and butters that can be incorporated to any lick mat or kong. So no matter what floats your doggo's boat we are sure you will find a recipe they will love.

    Yyvern I've seen people suggest soaking regular kibble in water and blending it as kong stuffing if he likes his kibble enough, it would be a good way to keep him entertained while sticking to his normal diet!

  • Holy guacamole this dog is eating better than I do. This dog sounds like he is living the granola life out in mountainous California or Colorado. Hitting the trails early in the morning and heading back home to snack on whatever decadent and delicious treats his momma makes for him when they return. Heck, I would not be surprised if there are stray dogs who line the windows of this pup’s house while his momma makes him these delicacies. I can imagine them just sitting there at the window, tongue out, hope filling their desperate little eyes to the brim.

    duketheunicorn Pretty much any fresh or frozen veggie that they like ―mine gets frozen California mix, beans or blueberries every day, as well as whatever ends would have been composted from cooking. No onions, of course.

    Tater Toot Maybe mix bone broth powder in with the yogurt? Baby food jars would be easy to spread on a lick mat and freeze.

    Objective-Holiday597 I stuff my guy's Kong with pumpkin and freeze it (suggested by vet). He loves it and because the pumpkin has frozen in the Kong it takes him time to get it out. He's also watching his calories

  • Ok, this is an interesting one for sure. While it might not be quite as fancy as some of the other options we have seen here it is a pretty darn genius one nonetheless. Because by adding an extra element of enrichment to the recipe not only will the meal last much longer, but it will work this pupper’s brain that much harder to make sure he is getting both good physical nutrition as well as mental. That being said, if your pupper is not on a diet you might as well put some fun stuff in the kong as well. Perhaps some peanut butter or better yet a banana.

    tilyd I started to mix plain yogurt with water to dilute it, that way I can cover the whole lick mat with just a small spoon of yogurt. I mix in a little bit of peanut butter or treat powder (at the bottom of the bag of freeze dried treats ahah) for flavour!

    usenamessuck ss Not a kong, but I fill a balloon with water and a bit of bone broth, tie it up and freeze it (takes a couple of days). Take the balloon off, throw it in the dog bowl and he spends hours licking that thing.

    [deleted] My dogs like the fruit and veggie baby food purees on lick mats. Of course, use in moderation, read the nutrition label, and and check the ingredients list. I also highly recommend the powdered peanut butter as a mix-in.

    [deleted] Low fat cream cheese. Way less fat and calories than peanut butter. You can also use low fat Greek yogurt. I put it in the Kong and then freeze it, so it takes longer to finish.
