After the 1st, 2nd, and, in some cases, 3rd-place teams are defined by the rating, they go on to play the following matches for the round of 32:

The definition of these matches is VERY important. They can only win or lose. A tie is not permitted. If, after the 90-minute match, they haven’t had a team win, they extend the time by 30 minutes; if they cannot define a winner after that, they play a penalty shootout till they have a winner. The country that wins the match goes on to play the round of 16. The other one gets eliminated on the spot without a chance of redemption.
