'I just hope if he asks me about my "dog" in the future, I don't forget my lie': Restaurant worker brings uneaten steak home from work for his "dog," but devours every morsel of it

Lies can go pretty far if we let them. Desperate times call for desperate measures. 

Sometimes we just need to vent about something to release it. No one likes to lie, no one wants to rely on deception to do their day to day, or to go to work comfortably. In Reddit's r/offmychest, a restaurant worker had a customer who only ate half of his steak. He was bringing the plates back to the kitchen and his boss was near him, so he wasn't able to get away with something sneaky or unscrupulous. He asked his boss if he could have the leftover steak to give it to his "dog," in which the boss told him yes. The background: he doesn't have a dog. He's just a desperate man in a desperate situation who was overworked and hungry. As the comments below say, it's rough out there. It's against policy to eat a customer's leftovers, but he had a fridge full of only condiments, and who can pass up a steak! He only hopes he can remember in the future that he has a fake dog.   • It's a crazy world we live in where we have to succumb to stealing an already eaten steak from a stranger to survive. Things have been worse, but there's such a weird dichotomy and imbalance of things in life these days. Why does everyone have a smartphone and endless luxury items and brain rot, but we don't live in a stable environment with work or anything else. Jobs are unstable and the world is changing so much. It's bad enough to work at a restaurant, and it's even worse to have to succumb to taking half eaten food.

  • If you're someone who's worked at a restaurant then you know how strenuous it could be. It's a lot of work for not a lot of pay. You're on your feet all day, and it akin to being an athlete in some way. The constant moving is like running a 5K, and you usually don't really eat either. But this guy did what he felt like he had to do, and who could pass up a steak?
