When I was a kid, I had a very glamorized vision of adulthood. I thought I'd have an apartment that looked like Sharpay Evans designed it; I'd wake up naturally every morning, drink coffee because I genuinely enjoyed the taste, and spend my evenings doing mysterious "adult things." I don't know what those adult things were supposed to be, but I was convinced they looked incredibly sophisticated. Instead, I'm standing in my kitchen wondering if cereal counts as dinner for the third time this week. I feel personally betrayed, and I know I'm not the only one.

Nobody tells you that one of the biggest parts of being an adult is making the same decisions over and over again. What should I eat? Did I switch the laundry? Should I spend money on this, or should I convince myself I don't actually need it? Why is there always another email waiting for me? It's like completing side quests that immediately respawn. The funniest part is realizing what actually excites you now. Finding a parking spot right in front of the store? Incredible. Your favorite yogurt being on sale? Best day ever. Cancelled plans on a rainy Friday? Suddenly life feels full of endless possibilities. Ten-year-old me would've been horrified. Then there's the moment you catch yourself saying something your parents used to say. Mine happened when I walked around the house turning lights off behind people. I stopped mid-sentence and thought, "Oh no... it's happening." There's no going back after that.

And somehow, despite paying bills, scheduling appointments, remembering birthdays, and pretending to understand taxes, I still feel like someone is eventually going to realize I'm just making this whole adulthood thing up as I go. Maybe that's the biggest surprise of all. Growing up doesn't magically make you feel grown up. It just means you slowly become the person who knows which sponge to buy, gets excited over a new vacuum, and has a favorite grocery store for reasons you can't fully explain. If any of that sounds painfully familiar, welcome to the club. These adulthood memes perfectly capture the strange little realities nobody mentioned when we were all busy dreaming about how cool being an adult would be. It may not look like the version we imagined while watching Disney Channel, but at least we can laugh about it together.
