Mom Gives 19-year-old College Student's Room to 17-year-old Stepdaughter, Gets Offended When She Doesn't Want to Attend Her Wedding As a Result

When does welcoming a stepfamily become a slight against the original family?

There is no denying that achieving a blended family is not always simple, no matter what age the kids may be. Introducing a whole new partner and their kids to your own kids is something that a lot of parents face with trepidation when they are put in that situation.

It is pretty common for stepkids to feel like they get the worst treatment from a parent's new partner, but it is possible for things to happen the other way around as well. Some people can't wait to leave their old life behind for their new one, and they hurt their own children's feelings in the process.

No matter what the scenario is, it will forever be painful to not be prioritized by somebody who is supposed to have your best interests at heart. It doesn't matter what age you are or what level of independence you are supposed to be at. Seeing a real-life demonstration of the negative emotions that a parental figure feels towards you takes a lot of strength to deal with, not least because they are likely to protest if you point them out.

  • BitterHelicopter8 I have/had two college aged kids. Their rooms are still their rooms until they are fully independent adults. If circumstances changed and I needed to use one of their rooms for someone else, I would talk with them first. That's just basic respect and consideration. It was wrong of her to do that.
