Mom says she's selling college freshman's furniture and turning their room into a gym, tells them to sleep on the floor during school breaks

Am I in the wrong for refusing to come home from college over breaks?

Okay so basically I'm an incoming freshman in college and I've been preparing to move out soon, and I had my mom come in my room the other day to help me put some stuff in boxes. She started to talk about her plans to turn my room into a fitness room, and so I was like okay cool your just gonna stick like a treadmill in here or what because my rooms pretty big theres like space for it.
She tells me no, shes actually selling all my furniture and completely redoing my room. So obviously Im like um where am I supposed to stay when I come home for breaks? And she says oh don't worry you can sleep on the couch in the office! My schools breaks are very long, and I would not enjoy sleeping on the sofa in my dads office for a month.
So I told her if that's the case I would use my breaks to visit friends at other schools or travel or just stay on campus, and she got so mad. I felt a little bad and I was like okay maybe I'd stay for a few days for like big holidays but thats it but she says Im being extreme and taking my anger towards her out on my family. I feel like its fair to not want to come home every break when I won't even have a room to come back to. aitah?
edit: sorry i should have clarified she is not kicking me out or selling my bed and stuff while im here, but once ive moved out and am in college shes planning to redo it all. she really likes to workout so i totally get why she would want to move from the living room into an actual room i would just love that room to also have a bed i guess Imfao
CalicoHippo NTA. My mother tried to do something similar when I went off to college. My dad stopped her, but after my sophomore year, I stopped coming home because she was resentful I was preventing her from having her workout/craft/dumping
room. I got a job- on campus first, then off- and sub- letted apts/rooms during winter and summer breaks. I also visited my grandparents a lot, which embarrassed my mother because they were her parents and I was "making her look bad". I told her she was getting what she wanted- me not at home, so why she was angry.

Bottdavid NTA if someone told me, especially my parents, they'd only keep a couch for me when leaving for college. then I wouldn't plan on staying there either
BeachinLife1 NTA...I have three kids, and none of their rooms were "remodeled" in any way till they were 100% moved out on their own. Going to college was not "on their own." So they all had a room in my home till they got done with what they were doing (college, military) and even then, until they got married and bought their own houses!
Jadie Jang NTA. She's basically throwing you out of the house; telling you in almost so many words that it's not your home anymore; that you're just a guest now. Tell her, straight up, that you won't live in a place that isn't your home, and you refuse to be a guest to your parents. Then grey rock her.
Vaughnye_West NTA. Sounds like there were plenty of options for her to find a place for the equipment without literally leaving you without a bed. If she's not going to make you feel welcome at home she shouldn't be surprised when you don't...feel welcome
ConsistentParking424 NTA Stay with friends, travel. Enjoy yourself. Visit your parents at the end of your break for a night or 2. That way your mother can't guilt you into staying longer. She told you that her gym is more important to her than you or any guest having a bed to sleep on.
MarcSkye519 I think selling all your furniture when you're still technically a dependent is extreme.
FeedbackWinter4061 NTA. Dad has an office, mom wants a fitness room, but child whose presence will be desired for long-term stays can't keep a bed around? That's weird. I personally like beds very much. I'd also be like, "during breaks you may find me where beds are. I had hoped to be here, but alas, I am not a horse who sleeps standing in the corner." Or whatever.
un-tv_star I went to my parent's house and discovered there was no room for me. This was during college. They never said a word about it. So I never went there to stay again. Got the message.
ezbutneverconvenient She's TAH. Going away to college is not moving out. Your room should be there.
Astronaut_Chicken Nah she cant have it both ways. If you dont feel welcome in your home you can go where you do. NTA
lushberries NTA shes selling your whole room and turning it into a gym before you've even left, then offering you a couch for a month long break, you didn't take a room away she did, and now shes mad you made other plans.. staying on campus isn't punishing your family, its just where your bed still exists
