Many people struggle with work not because they are lazy, but because modern work often feels disconnected from meaning, autonomy, and visible results. Humans evolved engaging in tasks that had clear purpose—gathering food, building shelter, caring for community. The effort was directly tied to survival and shared life. These days, that's not always the case. Work nowadays can feel pointless, repetitive, or detached from tangible outcomes. When you can't see how your labor connects to something real, motivation becomes harder to sustain. But when you have a cat, everything suddenly makes sense.

There is also the issue of autonomy. Psychologically, people thrive when they have some control over their time and decisions. Strict schedules, surveillance, productivity metrics, and hierarchical management structures can make workers feel replaceable or constrained. Even in well-paid jobs, a lack of agency can produce resentment or burnout. The discomfort isn't always about effort; it's about feeling controlled rather than self-directed. Ever go to work feeling like you're a bird in a cage? Imagine how your cat feels sitting at home all day! Just kidding, they probably love that they can chill all day while you go off and pay their rent for them. Living in the meowment is so important for our mental and emotional health. It's more than easy to get caught up in regrets of the past, or worries about the future. But think about cats, how they don't question these things, they don't worry about the future, and they certainly don't regret the past. Do you live in the meowment? If you're a yoga practicer, or meowditation doer, then probably you live in the meowment. For me, it can be difficult to tell myself to live in the moment and believe it. I tend to be a bit worried about the future, but it makes sense to me because there's always something to worry about.
