'Free kettin/babby cat': Down on his luck cat dad begs gas station customers to give his kitten a better life, until one kind soul makes his "babby" hers furrever

There are some stories that don't just pull on your heartstrings, but yank them until you have no choice but to tear up. This is one of those stories.

We cover a lot of stories that have a wholesome, happy ending (don't worry, this one does too), but we often don't know a lot about what happens before. Stray cats don't come with a browsing history of where they've been and how long they've been living outside, and abandoned kittens can't tell you who dumped them and where. But in today's story, we actually do know where the rescue kitten came from - he was loved, but we all know that love doesn't put cat food on the table.

Giving up or rehoming a cat is one of the hardest things you can do as a pawrent. It's also, if done for the right reasons, one of the most selfless things you can do. As we said before, love doesn't put cat food on the table, so if you can't give your fur baby the life they deserve, then you have to let go of them and try to find somewhere they will. It's like pulling out a piece of your heart and giving it to someone else, but as painful as it is, it will be less painful than watching the pet you love more than life itself suffer.

Even reading about our cat dad below, who fell on hard times and begged gas station customers to adopt his "babby" kitten, makes our eyes well up with tears. It takes a true man to ask others for help without shame, and this man did it for the sake of giving his kitten a better life. Luckily, one kind soul decided to honor his wishes and adopt "babby".

Now part of a feline family of three cats, Babby is settling in to their new home and thriving. From one loving pawrent to another, we thank this woman and her big heart. Now, we need more pictures of Babby, ASAP!

We grew up with a very heavy-handed understanding of “stranger danger”. You didn't get into anyone's vehicle unless they knew the codeword, which our parents had decided that day. No amount of free puppies, kittens, candy, or Pokémon cards were allowed to tempt us. This, however, might be the only case when we would allow ourselves (although we are in our 30s now, so the situation is quite different) to be lured to an unknown car with the promise of a free kitten.

She absolutely has to name them “babby kettin”. It will honor her dad's sacrifice in giving her up. It's also such a special name! One she should treasure as much as the cat itself.
