Student rescues an injured stray cat, cares for him as they remove his leg, then finds him a home, but the cat hates that place because he's already chosen a home, so the student takes him back, and he blossoms

Man plans, and the cat distribution system laughs. 

Fostering a cat is a beautiful mission with a beautiful purpose. You're kind-hearted. You may not have enough room in your house for another cat, but you certainly have enough room in your heart to help an animal in need. And that's noble. And not easy. It may be a kind thing to foster a cat, and the biggest achievement may be to find that foster cat a good and proper home, but that doesn't mean that saying goodbye to them, especially after bonding, is easy. That is a big part of why so many fosterers become foster-fails and adopt their foster cats. But it's not the only reason. Sometimes, it's the cat who has other plans. 

The foster situation in today's story was a little different. The person who fostered this sweet cat, who helped the cat after his leg had to be amputated, who allowed the cat to recover and calm down and begin to trust humans… that person truly thought that they didn't have enough room in their home for another cat, since they already had six of them. So, they did their due diligence. They helped the cat, and then they found the cat a purrfect forever home. Another home with cats so the cat wouldn't be alone. A home with humans who love cats and are ready and happy to help a cat who's still in recovery. Everything seemed purrfect, but the cat hated that home anyway. 

The human may have planned to only foster the cat for a while, but the cat had decided that the deal was not temporary. The cat chose his home. Now, it was just a matter of the human getting on the same boat and realizing that they never really had a choice in the matter in the first place.

    Trapping him was very stressful: he wasn't entering the trap, some security guys was discussing with me about the trap, they don't allowed me to trap him where he was, I leave to class crying and decided to put the trap on the other side of the campus, just in case.

    On the middle of the calculus test he was caught, after the test I run to see him and we got to the vet.

  • Oh, we can only imagine how stressful that test must have been. Our mind would have been on the cat and on nothing but the cat the whole time.

    After some tests and seeing the orthopedist: the major probability was that someone kicked his leg. He had to amputee a part of his femur bone on surgery. Took a lot of medicines, always growling, I struggled a lot to clean his wounds.

    After two months he was realised to meet my cats (I have 6) and he was eager to have friends, as this point he was still very afraid of us, always hidden, but after a few months he started even to jump on our bed (when we are not there).

    After healing, he could finally jump, run and... be adopted!! We find a beautiful family, with 3 other cats, amazing and patient, because he was still very afraid of humans.

    We got him to his new home, very sad after 7 months together, but we already have 6 cats, it was too much. But he REFUSED to eat, he made a 3 day hunger strike, he wouldn't eat anything.

  • He knew where his home was, and he did not understand why you removed him from it. Thank you for taking him back. He's proof that there is always room for one more.

    If you don't know: cats can't expend two or more days without eat, they develop health issues. So our choice was to return him and he immediately restarted to eat. After this we decided to keep him.

    We are together for a year now, he accepts pets, at his terms, he even sleep with us in our bed. He always run when he his on the floor close to us, but I can see some improvement, he is getting more confident everyday.
