Legal assistant refuses to apologize for pushing back when a coworker demands she drop a client mid-call and then skipping an unpaid Saturday event

Picture a phone changing hands like your 4, and it's a hot potato. That's basically what happened when someone got asked to hand over an office iPhone mid-sentence while still helping a client

The client didn't care about the training schedule. The coworker watching, apparently, cared about nothing else.

A five-minute standoff over a phone handoff is never really about the phone. It's a pop quiz nobody studied for, testing whether you'll drop everything the second someone with slightly more tenure snaps their fingers. Fail the quiz, and you're "difficult." Pass it and you've just taught an intern that office rank beats basic logic every time.

  • A few days ago, my boss's mom was training one of the interns and asked me to hand the intern the office Iphone and teach her how to answer calls since that's one of my main responsibilities.

  • Nobody updates the group chat about a moved event date, and somehow that becomes your problem to solve retroactively, from bed, at 9am, unpaid. It’s the scheduling equivalent of getting stood up for brunch and then getting blamed for not showing up to the restaurant. The missing text doesn’t count as a mistake. Only the missing person does.

    Running on fumes from doing a paralegal’s job for legal-assistant money changes the math on everything else. A tiny jab about holding a phone too long stops being a tiny jab and starts feeling like proof the whole arrangement was rigged from day one. Skip the unpaid Saturday shift nobody bothered to properly invite you to, and that’s not attitude, that’s just what a dry tank looks like when nobody thought to check the gauge.
