Golden child cousin plans elaborate Mother's Day for aunt without her kids, they call her out for stealing their thunder

Am I in the wrong for getting mad over my cousin's gift for my mom?

I (25F) recently got into a fight with my parents over something that happened on mother's day last year. Last year for mother's day my cousin (23F) had the genius idea to plan a day trip to a bungalow stay for her mom, our aunt and my mother who is her uncle's
wife. It sounds pretty cool out of context but the problem is she never shared this with any of us and planned it so that the entire mother's day our moms would be away. Me and my sister had planned a day with mom and got her a gift but when she brought this up all happy and jolly, we had to cancel since our plans were not as grand and mom really loved the idea of a tiny trip.
Before, during and after the day of their trip everyone was talking about it, how nice and thoughtful my cousin was, that me and my sister would never plan something like that and all that. I kept quiet and have her my gift afterwards. Only my sister knew how upset I was but I suspect mom must have noticed as well. She is also hard to please so I didn't feel like she liked my gift in comparison either.
Fast forward to this year, we are planning a summer vacation with my cousin and our nuclear families and my parents bring up how dependable and thoughtful she is again for the millionth time and I finally snap.
I tell them how upsetting and thoughtless she was to me and my sister since she hijacked our mother's day without asking us, got to spend the day with them while we watched from home, set an unfair standard (she is kind of well off now, I was struggling at the time) and that she doesn't deserve all this praise and I don't
deserve to be berated over it. I also reminded them of how my aunt (her mother) painted a picture of absolute financial ruin when her husband passed and we collected money for them, and my cousin ended up posting on ig that she got the latest iphone, flaunting the receipt just a month later. Not super relevant but I think it shows her character.
My parents seemed to understand why I was upset but didn't think it was a big deal. I feel like she crossed a line and nobody else but my sister wants to recognize it. AITAH for snapping at my parents?

Commenters had differing ideas on what to do here.

Reasonable-Sale8611 You said your mom is hard to please. And also your parents cited the trip planned by your cousin as an example of your cousin being more dependable and thoughtful than you. I think the core problem here is that your parents are
negative about you, even when you are trying your best. That is very hurtful towards you and it is hurtful to see your mom choose to spend mother's day with your cousin rather than with you and your sister.
Feeling that one's own mother doesn't see you as "good enough" is a really difficult wound. Generally children, even once adult, have an innate desire to have a good relationship with their mother.
I suspect your cousin has a similar relationship with her own mother and has discovered that doing this sort of thing is a way to get positive attention from her own mother.
I think, between this and the collection you took up after your aunt's husband passed away, you should take note of the way that money is being used to manipulate you here. It's very easy to get played doing this, and very easy to get into debt.
GreenDragonEast It's not your cousin's job to clear your mom's calendar for an event. It's hers. You're mad at the wrong person. If you didn't raise the issue then, you're just bottling up your anger. I can't tell if your parents are being rubbing you nose in it or if you're overreacting a bit. But eating. your feelings and snapping at them a year later is not a great way to deal with it.
FutureboyMcfly69 Your mom is TA. She chose not to spend mother's day with her kids who planned something? I wouldn't even give my mom her gift after that and wouldnt plan anything again for mothers day.
Blamdomonis Cousin intentionally iced you and your family out of the planning for MD, and you did. not find out until the last minute. That was not an accident or oversight. She did not forget to call you. She did not want you involved so that she got to have everything her
way, and your family paid the price, while she played the hero to her mother. She knew what she was doing - very manipulative power move. I hope you enjoy getting to tell them NO KIDS at the Air BnB! Best regards
Smart_Influence_2949 Your absolutely valid and it's quite understandable to be upset I would be upset with cousin, that should've been a group event organised by all the moms children, cousin was definitely flexing
I would also be upset that mom didn't stay or ok it with the children she actually had instead of opting for the shinier present I guess your cousin and your mom sk here
lihzee I'm sorry, but YTA here to me. Your mom had a good time. it was Mother's Day. Not YOUR day. I don't deserve to be berated over it. Were you berated? All it
sounds like is that your mom gushes about cousin, and it makes you feel less-than, not that she's saying "gosh, OP, you s k for being so thoughtless!" Did you even bother telling your mom what your original plans were, or try rescheduling them for another time? That would have been thoughtful.
Bringing up other irrelevant stuff about your cousin to try to make her look like a bad person is ridiculous. You need to grow up.
