Cats have somehow convinced the world that sleeping 16 hours a day counts as being busy.

Cats don't schedule naps. They simply decide the day has been productive enough and power down wherever they happen to be standing. It doesn't matter if they were chasing invisible enemies through the hallway thirty seconds earlier. Once nap time arrives, the mission has been aborted.

Finding a place to sleep is never a challenge, either. Your clean laundry? Perfect. The chair you were about to sit in? Even better. That tiny square of sunlight creeping across the floor? Reserved hours in advance. Cats have an uncanny ability to spot the coziest place in any room, then act shocked when a human dares interrupt their carefully planned snooze.

The sleeping positions are half the entertainment. Some curl into a neat little ball, while others stretch from one end of the couch to the other like they're trying to set a new feline long-jump record. Then there are the cats whose heads somehow hang off the edge of the bed without a care in the world. Looking at them is enough to make your own neck hurt.

Every nap looks important. A five-minute catnap turns into three hours without warning, followed by a dramatic stretch, one enormous yawn, and an expression that says they've had a very demanding day. It's a tough life supervising birds through the window and making sure every cardboard box gets a proper inspection.

Humans spend money on blackout curtains, white noise machines, and expensive mattresses in search of better sleep. Cats skip all of that. Give them a shoebox, a fuzzy blanket, or a patch of afternoon sun, and they're out like a light. Maybe they're onto something. If there were an Olympic event for sleeping, every cat would stroll away with the gold, then curl up on the podium for another nap.

If cats had things their way, they'd probably spend just enough time awake to eat, stretch, and remind everyone they're in charge before heading right back to sleep. Why chase toys when you could chase dreams instead? Every nap just seems to be a warm-up for the next one. They treat staying awake like a minor inconvenience, and somehow they still manage to look completely accomplished by the end of the day.

There aren't many things better than settling in for a nap and having your cat decide you're the perfect pillow. The second they curl up beside you, all your plans for a quick 20-minute nap disappear. You're officially trapped, and somehow you don't even mind. Sure, your arm might fall asleep before you do, but that's a small price to pay. If a cat chooses to spend nap time with you, that's about as high a compliment as it gets.

Isn't it funny how every kid dreaded nap time? Back then, it felt like the worst part of the day because there were so many better things to do. Fast forward a couple of decades, and most adults would happily cancel a meeting if it meant getting an hour under a cozy blanket. Cats had it figured out from the beginning. They never questioned the value of a midday snooze.
