One Pokémon card collector's late-night trip to Sam's Club took an unexpected turn when a friendly kitten picked them instead

You never know what you'll come home with after a late-night shopping trip.

Some people spend years saying they'll get a cat "when the time is right." Others come up with very specific rules, hoping the decision will never actually have to be made. The Cat Distribution System loves people like that because it treats every rule as a personal challenge.

One couple had been joking for eight years that they could only get a cat if the Cat Distribution System chose them first. It sounded like a safe deal... until one late-night trip to Sam's Club for Pokémon cards changed everything. While waiting in line, one shopper noticed an affectionate little kitten making friends with everyone nearby. A few pets turned into cuddles, cuddles turned into attachment, and by 4 a.m. the kitten was heading home instead of back into the parking lot.

The husband did what so many future cat parents do. First came the obligatory, "Don't get attached." Then reality set in. It wasn't long before he was the one naming their newest family member, JuFufu, after a cat character from a game they both play. Soon after that came the selfies, which pretty much confirmed the kitten had already won him over.

JuFufu played this perfectly. She didn't need to meow dramatically or chase anyone through the parking lot. She simply wandered over, accepted a few pets, and let her charm do the rest. Sometimes that's all it takes.

The Cat Distribution System has an impressive success rate when it comes to changing people's minds. One minute, someone is convinced they're just waiting in line for trading cards. The next, they're shopping for cat food, arguing over names, and wondering how the house ever felt complete without a tiny ball of fur running around. JuFufu may not have been on anyone's shopping list, but she was clearly exactly what this family had been waiting for.

The dog might need a little time to adjust, but that's completely normal. Bringing home a new kitten is a big change, especially for a pet who's had the house to themselves. Before long, the new routine will start feeling normal, the curiosity will take over, and they'll hopefully realize this tiny roommate isn't so bad after all. With a little patience, plenty of supervised introductions, and a few treats along the way, these two could end up becoming the best of friends.

That might be the greatest shopping deal of all time. Go in hoping to grab some Pokémon cards, leave with a kitten who'll spend the next fifteen years filling the house with zoomies, purrs, and plenty of entertainment. No pack, box, or clearance sale is topping that. We'd say JuFufu was worth a whole lot more than anything sitting on the store shelves, and she didn't even come with a price tag.

It's funny how often the biggest skeptics end up becoming the most devoted cat parents. They're the ones saying, "We're not keeping it," only to be caught talking in a baby voice a day later. Before long, they're handing out treats, taking selfies, and letting the kitten get away with absolutely everything. JuFufu didn't have to work very hard here. She knew exactly who she'd won over long before he was willing to admit it.
