Yet somehow you start developing tastes that only a homeowner in a period drama would have. You catch yourself seriously considering a pizza oven for the backyard you don't have. You start eyeing meat smokers the way you used to eye video game consoles. You get a sourdough starter and name it, feed it, worry about it more than you worry about your own hydration. These hobbies are basically the Hogwarts houses of getting older, everyone eventually gets sorted into one and there's no transferring out once the Groupon for a smoker purchase clears.
You'll drop four hundred dollars on a cast iron pan collection like you're building an empire, then panic buy the same brand of cereal you ate in third grade because a small terrified child still lives in your ribs and needs comfort food immediately. You'll debate mulch types for twenty minutes then forget you have a dentist appointment that was scheduled two months ago.
So no, the age catching up with the feeling isn't really a millennial thing. It's an everyone thing dressed up in flannel and sourdough. We just happen to be the generation loud enough on the internet to document every awkward step of it. Anyway, the starter needs feeding. So does the ego.
