A young man recently took to Reddit to share his unnerving experience with finding something in his house that he knows isn't his.
"I live alone… these aren’t my nuts"
"Context: I'm a single bachelor (M 32), and I opened my snack cupboard to find these peanuts in a small Tupperware container. I'm stressed out because I A) live alone, B) have a mild nut allergy, and C) don't own any Tupperware like this.
I'm stressed out that someone may be entering my apartment when I'm out. Would calling the non-emergency police line help, or would they not be able to do anything?"
One commenter asked whether he had any guests at his home who might have left the nuts, but he denied it.
“My parents helped move me in about a month ago, but since then, nobody. I’m not exactly a social butterfly, sort of a lone wolf. That’s why I’m especially panicked.”
He isn't the only person who has experienced something like this! One commenter shared how she and her roommate discovered that their neighbor was breaking into their house and stealing all their groceries.

"True story.
When I was in my 20s, I moved into an old duplex with a roommate. I’d buy groceries, and by the next day they’d be gone. She denied taking them every single time. Then she’d buy food… and the next day it would disappear too. We fought constantly, each convinced the other was stealing.
During the last month of our lease, I had a night off from work. I heard someone in the kitchen and thought, “Finally! I’m going to catch her red-handed.”I burst out of my room… only to find a man I’d never seen before standing in our kitchen. I screamed. My roommate came running out and screamed. Then the guy screamed too. It was like a horror movie where everyone forgot who the villain was.
Turns out he was our neighbor. He had been climbing through the attic from his side of the duplex, lowering himself into our apartment, and helping himself to our food. The police arrested him. More than 20 years later, the roommate I spent months accusing of stealing from me is still one of my closest friends.
So before you accuse someone of eating your leftovers… maybe check the attic first."
