Mum silent treatment ices us out 24hrs just over Over this
Context. GF's mum loves going to this city thats a couple of hours away to look at a church and a shop. Absolutely must bring the dog due to attachment issues.
GF and I planned the night before to drive down to the city for our own date because we had our own plans. She'd been wanting to go there specifically without the dog because they keep getting banned from going into places due to said dog. So I'd planned it specifically for her to get to do what she wants.
GF checks with her Mum the night before if she's at work this week, Mum assumes she's coming on the date and goes to the shop to specially by buy a ve for the trip.
GF and I go on the date without bringing the Mum because neither of us knew her Mum has v e prepped for the trip. (A: I don't allow ves in the car, B: Theres an existent issue on the dog which I'd prefer to be in the boot if he gets mucky and we've got a boot liner for that reason, her Mum does not want to comply on this matter so it's already a sticky point). About 15mins after leaving the house, her Mum texts her saying "it would have been nice".

Come back, Mum silent treatment ices us out for just over 24hrs over this. Two days later now... we get yelled at for being selfish and rode for not taking her. She claims she was invited, neither GF or myself invited her. She assumed she'd be coming for the date because it's a place she likes to go to.
GF does know why I specifically did not invite her Mum was so she can specifically do what she wants to do.
Prestigious-Shirt325 OP I'm 31 and she's 20. Everyone's chill with age gap though. In my defence I didn't know about the convo from the night before till about 30mins ago.
fzooey78 Honestly, you need to keep doing things like this and asserting these boundaries so that she learns
Behold TheseComics NTA at all. You didn't invite her.

KellyAMac NTA but How old are you & GF? This is absolutely not your responsibility. You & GF probably need to improve communication with people like this - most would not assume notification of a trip is an invitation but if it's been
discussed or they have expressed interest, tell them who is going on the trip clearly. No is a complete sentence but for some people open ended statements set you up for a mess. I don't understand what the v le has to do with the
trip. You can tell people not to vape in your car/home/personal space. It should be "GF & I go on the date without bringing the Mum b/c Mum" is not invited & we told her no. I don't allow ves in the car. The dog is only allowed in the boot. You could have said - we will drop you at the church & shop during our date but no ves, no dog or just no. -
lawburgtn It's interesting to see people overreact because they invited themselves and then do not get to go. The mom needs to understand that as a couple, you need some alone time without HER or her DOG. NTA.
Medical-Potato 5920 NTA. It's time to enforce some boundaries. Be clear with communication.
Top_Philosopher1809 NTA. It was a date. What part of that does mom not understand? From now ow. I would limit I for for your date plans. Put her on an information diet. She doesn't need to know all your plans, especially dates.
DConstructed NTA. And I think your girlfriend might want to stop sharing her plans with her mother.
AdSubstantial9658 NTA "I was invited." By whom. I didn't invite you, and your daughter didn't invite you. You were categorically not invited, and the dog was doubly not invited.
Ok_West_6711 GF should take the lead on this, you should not have to. NTA for planning and taking trip with GF, but not sure what has been said since.
Due-Yoghurt4916 Your girlfriend is the one responsible for setting boundaries with her mom. You can only set boundaries for yourself. If if wont tell mom no than this will get to the point its always you they blame. Might want to take this more seriously
