The trainer described the situation and how most of their business operates on word of mouth.
But they had a run-in with an influencer who messaged them on social media.
She wasn't his usual clientele but he thought the visibility might boost his business.
It wasn't until payment was mentioned that the troubles started. The influencer tried to dodge footing the bill by asking if the trainer would be interested in "some exposure" istead. This is frustrating for 2 reasons.
- If you want to negotiate pay, the time to do it was before the service was rendered especially when you're trying to negotiate for what basically amounts to "free" instead.
- A bird in hand is worth two in the bush… Being paid with theoretical future business will never be the same as having the cash in hand now.
But he stuck firm to his price.
He explained the plan and thought that they were firmly on the same page.
But then the troubles started again with a 5am message.
She flew off the handle
The trainer, again, explained the plan to her, which she suddenly seemed not to understand.

The tirade continued.
She demanded a refund and a public apology, with threat of tagging his business partners.
He refunded her and listed a public apology, tagging her, that carefully outlined the facts. And the facts didn't make her look good.
And, as far as he was concerned, that was the end of it.
He was surprised that this exposure actually seemed to be the thing that gave him a boost to his business. The influencer had paid him with exposure after all!
