How do you feel when you talk to someone who says their favorite social media platform is Tumblr?

There is no avoiding social media these days. Even people who claim they have deleted every platform off their phone probably still have at least one app that takes up some of their free time, and there is nothing wrong with that. Sure, no one should devote their life to doomscrolling on a random social media platform, but we also think that as long as we find the content we consume fun and entertaining, it's okay to give it a bit of our free time.

Most people spend that free time on platforms like TikTok, Instagram, or Twitter, where the algorithm is working non-stop to provide users with content that is perfectly tailored for them. But before these platforms became so popular, other social media perfected the art of a 'for you' page, and one of them is Tumblr.

Why Tumblr is not as popular as TikTok or Twitter is something we still do not understand. The platform has everything, literally: Stupid jokes, fandom culture, dramatic discussions, and animal videos. And yet, not many people pride themselves on spending their free time on Tumblr, and it becomes rare to meet someone who would tell you that their favorite place to be online is on that platform.

But those who do, know how truly fun the experience on there can be. It doesn't feel as never-ending, and it's not as nonsensical. There is real humor and a sense of humanity on that site, something we don't see much of in other platforms. People go on Tumblr to connect with others, to read, to explore a form of content that doesn't exist anywhere else. There is nothing like Tumblr.
