HR implements dress code for fully remote employees, demands 'business casual' in virtual meetings: ‘Do they think this will magically make us more productive?’

When you work from home, one of the biggest perks is that you get to wear whatever you want to work.

Pajamas and sweatpants become your best friend, and shoes are very much a forgotten concept; that is one of the biggest beauties of working from home. You save so much time on trying to decide what to wear every day, get to stay as comfortable as possible through your 8-hour workday, and let's not forget all the money you save by not needing to buy appropriate office attire. Such a great perk.

But is it the best perk? If your workplace decided to start implementing a business dress code for remote employees, would that have been a deal breaker?

It might be for the employee who shared the story below on r/jobs, but many people disagree. Working fully remotely has a lot of benefits, and people would gladly give up on their sweatpants if it means they can wake up at 8:55 AM and start working at 9:00 AM. Obviously, if you like working from home, putting on a blouse shouldn't change that. It is a very minor sacrifice for the ability to work from your bed.

Not to mention that there is a limit to how a workplace can enforce a dress code for remote employees. The only way they can know what their employees are wearing is through video calls, which means that as long as a remote employee is not actively sitting in a meeting, they can wear whatever they want in between.

So why was this employee so upset when the company rolled out this new dress code? Is being forced to dress in business casual clothing really that bad, or is it true that a demand like that might imply that the company feels a bigger need to control employees? Scroll for the full story to decide.

    EuphoricDatabase961 Have a shirt on the back of your chair to change into before a meeting & wear black on the bottom, be it track pants or leggings or whatever you usually wear - they cannot tell the fabric, and they will likely not ever see it.
