Mom books child's haircut for 12-year-old, refuses to pay when stylist tells her the haircut type requires an adult price: 'Her hair wasn't even long to start with'

Women's haircare is an industry worth billions of dollars, and it is an expense that many women take on from a relatively young age. Having hair that looks good or at least is deemed presentable isn't just an ego thing; it is a matter of acceptance in the wider world. While this is kind of true for anybody irrespective of gender, the price disparity between the average man's and woman's haircut is a crazy thing.

As a result, there are a lot of women out there for whom maintaining their hair is a significant expense, and it can start from a pretty young age. When going to a hairstylist, even the most basic trim can wind up costing a baffling amount, to say nothing of when you decide to completely change up your style. It is no wonder there are a lot of people who try their best to do most of their hair maintenance themselves. However, there are times when there really is no other viable option but to leave the styling in the hands of a professional. You just have to hope they're qualified and that they won't try to swindle you.

  • MissSmkNmirrors Hairdresser here. That stylist was probably concerned about the time it would take. Most kids cuts take 20-30 minutes. A major shape change takes longer. That being said, my prices are the same regardless of how long it takes. If I don't have the time to do what the person wants I let them know and suggest alternative times or alternative services.

  • Imnotranee Either have kid cut prices, or don't. They can't expect every kid to have the same want and length of hair, and they can't expect customs to play a guessing game of what is considered a kids cut or not. They should just get rid of it all together if there levels to a kids cut
