  • A woman throws her hands up in frustration.
  • Am I wrong for telling my wife the house is more my sister's than hers and she should show some gratitude?

My wife and I currently live in a house owned by my sister and we pay wayyy below market value to live there. My sister and I have always been close and she didn't need the house, but wasn't sure if she wanted to keep it long term, so she invited us to live there and we just pay utilities.
  • My wife has never liked my sister but agreed to move in as we are in a very high cost of living area. My sister and her husband live in a different country and came to visit. He went to spend some time with his mom and then was going to meet up with us all where we live.

  • The sister decided to react to her husband's cosmetic change.

He ended up getting veneers which my sister was super against for some reason because she thinks they will make her teeth look yellow in comparison (her teeth look normal, his look fake as hell Imao) Anyway while staying at our house, my sister decided to prank him for getting the veneers and tried to die them by putting a ton of food dye in his drink.

  • The drink ended up dumped on the floor and my wife was LIVID. She screamed at my sister to clean it up, which she said she would but she didn't do it fast enough as she was in the bathroom watching him scrub his teeth.

  • The wife didn't understand why this had to happen where she lived.

She called them both low class assholes and ended up calling my mom. I really don't understand why she did that as they don't even get along. My mom basically told my wife to fuck off. My sister told my wife she needed to calm down. My wife said it could stain our floor, and my sister said "you mean my floor"

  • At that point I was scared it was going to get physical so I took my wife to another room and tried to calm her. I told her I would handle the floor and she needed to calm down, because technically it is my sister's house and she lets us live here, because she wants to help us out. I said it was a harmless prank and calling my mom was really weird.

  • That being said, the wife was twisting the facts of their living situation.

Unhappy_Self_8183 NOR. There is no homeownership for her to speak of.

  • Nobody came out of this looking good.

readerchick ESH. Your sister sounds awful and your wife seems overly dramatic. You and your mom don't come off any better.

  • GeminiAtl Hard to respect her "home ownership" when she doesn't own any of the home. Your wife needs a reality check. Unfortunately, as her husband you may be caught in the fall out of that reality check. If sister decides she's had enough she could evict you, or start charging

  • you market rent. Doesn't mean your wife needs to bend over backwards for your sister, but she at least needs to be polite.

  • Yiayiamary Your wife is weird. She knows* it's not her house. She is the one overreacting!
