Pets, those weird creatures that we adopt one day and decide to love forever.


When you adopt a pet, you start loving them that exact moment. Is not something that grows on you. It's simple and pure love that you start to feel that exact moment without a doubt, and it lasts forever. Is beautiful and pure, and it's quite unexplainable as well. We can't communicate with them. We are not sure that they understand us, and we don't fully understand them either. We have different habits and ways of living. We are completely different. But that doesn't make them any less lovable. The relationship between humans and pets just works, and I love that.

One of the strongest bonds that I have ever created was with my pets. I currently live with a cat and a dog whom I love more than anything. They make my life happier, and they fill me with joy. They are like roommates that don't cooperate in anything and just make everything messier, but I wouldn't change them for the world. I realize that this feeling is not unique to me. Almost anyone with pets acts and thinks like this. The uncontrollable love toward a pet that can't even fully understand it is beautiful.

One way of knowing that you definitely love your pets is to notice the "little things" they do that make them special and unique. There are so many things we notice they like doing that we even start to give them treats so they can do them even more. For example, giving your cat their own glass of water so they don't feel left out when you are drinking, or getting them those computers made out of cardboard so they can also be on their laptop when you are working. We make a lot of accommodations for them, but we don't regret any of them. I thought that was kind of a unique experience, but I guess I was wrong. Anyway, here is a little thread of some cute but bizarre things pets do according to the stories in r/pets.

    My cat has this very specific ritual where every time I sit on the couch with a glass of water, she comes over, stares directly into my eyes, and gently dips one single paw into it. She doesn't even want to drink it she just likes to moisten her paw, shake it off on my rug, and walk away looking extremely accomplished

    Kind Job5474 I have two brother cats, B&T. When I give them wet food, T eats from the bowl in the kitchen and B eats in the living room. But when I give them dry food, they swap. T eats in the living room and B in the kitchen.

    ConceptOther5327 One of my dogs only eats half her food. Doesn't matter how much food I add she won't eat more than half. What's really bizarre is that she eats it in a straight line. This is her bowl right now. It's normally a much neater line than this, but she ate more than usual today.

    MysteriousSnow7416 my dog does something similar but with socks. clean socks, dirty socks, doesnt matter. she takes one from the laundry basket, carries it to the living room, drops it right in the middle of the floor and just... stares at it. like shes waiting for it to do something. never chews them, never plays with them, just this weird ritual of placing socks around the house like little offerings

    Easy-Low The coat closet cannot ever be closed. He will meow until you fix it. Whatever kitchen chair you were just sitting in is now his. He has raced me to a chair and been sat on multiple times. We have three chairs, one for me, my husband and the cat. We change around depending which chair the cat is already occupying.     BeneficialShame8408 My cat is an hour early to any event relevant to her. So that includes my coming home from the office and when I get off work while working from home. She waits by the door on normal days to greet me, and on WFH days, she starts jumping all over me and my laptop and crying. Honorable mention is her 4pm treat on weekends.     LucDesign-eu My dog "tells" us which dogbed we should bring her to the room we are currently in. She has a dogbed in each room, but they are different shape, size, material and hardness. The second we bring it, she goes there and falls asleep instantly.

I found out that I can pretend to yawn obnoxiously loud or play my ringtone as if someone were calling me, have a pretend conversation, then she will make her way to the kitchen to eat. If I'm brushing my teeth or making breakfast and haven't played chase-the-beastie with him yet, he comes to the door, silently peeks mischievously around the corner, then sprints away.     igotaproblemwithyou when I give my two boys wet food, they start eating from their own bowls, but then Nilsson (the orange one) decides halfway through that his bowl is boring and goes over to my other cat, Assar, and pushes his head away with his own and starts eating from that bowl instead, which Assar accepts without fuss and just goes over to Nilssons bowl to continue eating Imao

    Syralei Everyday, my cat Juniper and I play Hide and Go Breakfast. For some unexplained reason, she doesn't like breakfast.
