After 10 years in captivity, bear who was rescued gains courage to go outside her cave and experience the world again in heartwarming story: 'We're so proud of her'

There's always a light at the end of a dark tunnel. 

Life takes us on paths we never thought we would cross. We don't always think about the life of an animal, but at the end of the day, their lives really are immensely important. People can do things to an animal they wouldn't do to each other. There's no excuse for it, but all we can do is see it in real time and speak up. That's what this organization Free the Bears did when they realized a wild bear was being held in captivity illegally in Laos. They rescued the bear after 10 years of isolation, and brought her to the wild. They keep an eye on her, but she's free to roam and life any life she wants. She has full access to nature and forests, but she's so hindered by her experience in captivity that she's too afraid to leave her cave. After about a year like this, she finally gains the confidence and courage to go outside from her cave. It's an absolutely heartwarming story of hope, and in the end there's always a light at the end of the tunnel. Here's to the organization that freed her, and here's to her newfound meaning to life.

  • Living in captivity is one of the most horrible lives anyone can have. It's a sick world when people can just take an animal and suddenly the animal has nowhere to go. It makes sense that she would be skittish even though she has freedom. In a story like this, it just goes to show that no matter if we're talking about an animal or a person, there are similar and overlapping instincts when it comes to certain situations.

  • Bears are actually quite curious animals, and they're far more intelligent that they may appear. Their size and stature usually make up most of their memory in people's minds, but they're actually quite whimsical. It's so sad to see that this bear lost touch with that kind of curiosity simply because she spent a decade in fearful darkness. It's incredible that she's saved. Now she can get back to her roots and her instincts.
