  • My fiancé and I reserved a small hotel block for our wedding because the venue is about 40 minutes outside the city and almost everyone staying there will be using the shuttle we arranged. My cousin booked one of the rooms months ago, but recently found out she can't make the wedding. Instead of cancelling it, she gave the reservation to a couple she's friends with because apparently they wanted a cheap

  • weekend away and our group rate saved them a decent amount. Neither of these people are invited to the wedding. I've met them maybe twice. I only found out because my cousin casually mentioned they could "probably grab breakfast with everyone the morning after." I told her that was weird and asked her to cancel the room so

  • someone actually coming to the wedding could book it. Our block is currently full and I already know two guests who couldn't get rooms. She said the reservation was hers once she booked it and it shouldn't matter who sleeps there if they're paying for it. I called the hotel and explained the situation. They moved the room out of our wedding block

  • and opened another room under our rate, which one of our guests took almost immediately. Now my cousin is ped because her friends lost the cheaper rate and says I embarrassed her over something that didn't affect me. My fiancé thinks I was right but my aunt says I should've just left it alone. We've already been budgeting what we made on Kick pretty carefully for the wedding so

  • maybe I'm extra protective over anything we're organizing, but I really don't think our wedding block should basically be passed around to random people.

  • The wedding party in the reception. Representative only.
  • AnlcyReception NTA It did affect you. Two of your guests were unable to use the discount because people who weren't your guest had taken it. Your cousin way overstepped

  • nannylive Your cousin claimed something that you arranged for your wedding guests, then gave it to a non guest without asking you if it was needed by someone actually attending. Then it sounds like she offered them invitations to a breakfast afterwards as well?

  • If all the guests who wanted to stay were accommodated in the block i would think you could let it slide. But they weren't, so you had every right to let the hotel know that your cousin's friends were not in your party. You cousins own actions are the cause of her embarrassment.

  • Yorbayuul81 I can't believe some of these questions. There's no chance in h that you're the a h le in this situation. NTA

  • Artemisa-07 To be honest.. family gaslights the sh out of you... So when you come from families where "family is the most important" you tend to question normal responses because you just got so used to have your family walk all over you under the excuse all is permitted because we are family

  • SacksonvilleShaguar NTA wow how entitled and selfish of your cousin. Who cares that her friends can't have a cheaper room for their little weekend away?? Besides her and her mom.

  • Glittering-Paper4516 I was on her side til you said your block was full and it impacted actual guests NTA

  • Efficient_Wheel_6333 NTA. What your cousin should have done was simply say 'I can't make the wedding. Do you want to open it up to other guests or can I offer it to some of my friends?' before doing what she did.

  • FloydianSlip78 NTA. Also not surprised to hear your aunt's position, I assume that's your cousin's mom. She had to get that insanely ridiculous attitude from somewhere.

  • GrowFlowersNotWeeds NTA. The wedding block price is offered to your guests to help them afford being able to celebrate your wedding. Not for someone else to get a discounted vacation. The discount wasn't your cousin's to share.
