Backpack as a cub
Teenage Backpack
When faced with adversity, you have two choices - you give up, or you figure out how to survive and learn from it. This is why it's so important to let your kids fail, because if you don't, they'll never learn how to deal with adversity and solve their own problems.
Backpack faced a huge challenge as a cub with his leg injury. Rangers weren't even sure if he was going to survive. But, with a little help from his mom, he learned the skills he needed to not only make it through, but also thrive. Injuries are our body's way of forcing us to slow down and do things differently. Those problem-solving skills he learned while healing probably shaped how Backpack would deal with things in the future. Because Backpack knows what it's like to be vulnerable, it turned him into the gentle giant he is today.
It's not always the biggest, meanest person in the room who is the strongest. Strength can be fueled by kindness as much as anger.
