  • Given a "written warning" today

So today, unexpectedly an HR rep shows up during my manager's call. I was given a written warning for "quality of work" and "not responding in a timely manner to me per company policy". It honestly kind of shocked me because for how distant my manager is I didn't expect him to write me up for
  • an issue. I expected him to come talk to me first about it and what we could do to correct it but nope, just straight to HR.

  • He is completely unorganized and throws work at me and gets upset when he's about to miss the deadline and asks why an assignment from 3 weeks ago has an issue when he needs to submit tomorrow. Anyways, I feel very distant and singled out at work so this write up really hurt me. I feel like they are making an excuse to let go of me?

  • He disagreed with the extreme measures.

Anyways, in the "memorandum" I am expected to check in with my manager on a regular basis and anything "more than 30 min away from my desk I must let my manager know". and "I am expected to respond to any message within 1 hour of when it was sent". How do I handle this? It seems extremely micro managerial.

  • It was time for some malicious compliance.

Foreign_Marzipan_297 I would be maliciously compliant and petty. He would be sick of my emails and when he fails to comply on his end I would be adding people to the communication emails to show his lack of ability to communicate in a timely manner. I've dealt with this before and got them off my back and kept my job.

  • bingle-cowabungle HR should know better than to surprise someone with a PIP if your manager has had no documented conversations with you. Unless he fabricated communication.

Neat-Relationship345 Sounds like you don't have a good manager. I can assure you I have had much worse. If you like the job and the pay, then find a way to make him happy and just keep your eye out for something else (internal or external). Remember, he won't be in that job forever
