Do you have a date for Homecoming?

The only date I've got is a wonderful rewatch session of some of the best high school movies of all time: She's All That, 10 Things I Hate About You, Mean Girls, It's a Boy Girl Thing, and even the not-so-classic Spider-Man: Homecoming. All of these have a couple of things in common: they make me smile when I think of them, and they have an iconic school dance final scene. Well, Spider-Man might not exactly belong on the list, but it is a great movie regardless.

By the end of the film, everything is at stake in the final seconds of the Homecoming match. The clock is ticking, and the main character's team is most likely losing. Suddenly, defying all odds, by the powers of destiny and friendship, the hero of the story manages a brilliant touchdown that gives the star team the win they needed. At that moment, just as we are celebrating the skilful last-minute play made by the very cool main character, they run off the court. That's when we get the most memorable romantic scene, in which the main love interest delivers a top-notch heartfelt speech while also asking for forgiveness for something crazy they did beforehand. The mood is perfect: dim lights, night sky, and sometimes we even get a little drizzle. Then, the final question to seal the deal: would you go to the dance with me?

Give it to the magic of film to assemble a perfect last-minute homecoming look for the main love interest. The perfect dress, the perfect shoes, and a magnificent entrance to the dance itself- all eyes on them. Simply impeccable. At that point, the movie got us all tearful as the main couple, who have struggled all 90 minutes to end up together, slow dance to a song that is just as iconic. Chef's kiss, no doubt.

On the other hand, it might all go down Carrie style, with a bucket filled with red paint and a recipe for homecoming disaster. Equally as entertaining, if I’m honest. From horror to drama, to comedy and romance, it is definitely a night to remember. Homecoming dance remains a high school classic in all shapes and sizes, translated into films and TV shows over and over again through time. A very special moment of the year we get to celebrate again and again, in both real life and the cinematic universe.

That said, I have never been to a Homecoming myself. Didn’t expect that, did you? My school wasn't really into that type of event. However, that doesn’t mean I can’t celebrate the fantastic proposals that start happening this time of year, as the event gets closer and closer. Once more, reality surpasses fiction as these creative teens put the bar way higher than expected. Truly, there’s an idea for every couple in this list. In any case, the collection above will definitely give you great ideas. If you’re going with your friends, a significant other, an unexpected date, a forever crush, or whatever other movie-like scenario you find yourself in, here are some thoughts on how to build your own perfect final scene proposal.
