BarkBox sympathetically sends a free box of dog toys to a woman whose house just burned down, gets hilariously shocked by the dark ‘fire’ theme: ‘Coincidence or intentionally malicious?’

So my house burned down, and I had to contact BarkBox to cancel my subscription. And the customer service rep was like, “Oh, why are we canceling? We're so sorry to see you go.”

Well, you should first know that each box gets a different theme. They usually coincide with the season or holidays. So on Thanksgiving, you get a toy shaped like a Turkey, or during winter you get snow-themed toys, and so on. Understand? 

Lucky for us, dark-humored folks, it just so happened that when she was finally able to receive her free BarkBox, the theme was camping… 

She's like, “You know what? As soon as you guys get put up in a new place, you send me that new address, and we will send you a free Bark Box to replace all the dog toys that you guys lost!”

The free toys they gave us are: Roasting marshmallows and a fire… because my house burned down.

Yep, that's right. The woman who just experienced the trauma of her house burning down just got a box full of dog toys that were… fire-themed. That's because camping is all about the campfire! She got a roasting marshmallow toy and a fire pit toy. BarkBox apparently has a reputation for being pranksters, so did they do this on purpose, or was this just an unfortunate coincidence? 

If you have ever gone camping with your dog, you know that hanging out by the fire as it starts to get dark is the best time. The warmth is inviting, and the dancing of the flames is like watching nature's TV. It's a beautiful sentiment to share through toys if camping with your dog is something you enjoy. So, it's not that crazy that Breanne received a camping-themed box, especially since this happened when it was hotter outside, and camping was a possible activity. 

Luckily, this dog mom had a good sense of humor about it. As she posted the video about it, she explained the story between giggles and ended it by asking if the viewers think BarkBox knows they're being dark and funny or not. We liked to think the company is self-aware and embracing their humorous reputation, but we're also a bunch of funny pet parents, so who knows the truth! 

Other BarkBox customers were quick to point out that she just happened to get the box during the camping-themed month. However, even non-BarkBox customers are commenting on the hilarity of the situation. So, even if this wasn't on purpose, BarkBox should still stick with this new vibe. It seems the people are loving it!
