How did you meet your friends?

I don't remember how I met my friends. Who said hello to whom, who made the first move? Who was brave enough to break the ice? I can't really pin back the exact moment when we decided we were going to be in each other's lives for a long time. I don't even remember when I decided I was going to call them friends. I truly believe that's what makes friendship so special. One day you just meet someone who resonates with you and, suddenly, they become part of your life. No agreement, no contract, no previous discussion; just two people drawn together organically and, most of the time, without a clear explanation. Now, I am very happy to confess that I don't even remember what my life used to be like without them.

That said, it is shocking how one instant can mold your life completely. I meet my friends on a weekly basis; I rely on them to give me advice, and it makes me happy to share time with them. What if we hadn't met? What if I had been distracted for that second of my life? That's why I don't think some friendships are unexpected. I think every single friendship is unexpected. I mean, what are the chances of meeting someone who complements you, who sends you excellent memes when you need to laugh, and who can understand your unspoken language? Call it luck, the universe, or destiny; it is truly an unexpected event.

This collection celebrates friendship. But mostly, it celebrates its unexpected nature, always coming to our lives when we need it the most, and when we expect it the least. Even when we disagree or fight, there is not a day in my life I would not spend with my friend. They just make everything feel a little easier. It has been a real privilege to have them by my side as I grew up, learned, failed, got back up, and tried again; and it has also been a privilege to watch them as they do the same.
That said, animals are a lot like us in many ways. As it turns out, this is one of the relationships we share. Once again, they surprise us by showing us that friendship is a universal term, even where we least expect it to be. So, these duos and friend groups become the representation of our own friends. The way we relate to each other and the way we continuously choose each other every day. Like them, when things start to get a little off hand, all we need to recharge and go back at it is a walk alongside our friends. Also, looking at these pictures, we can be reminded that friends don’t always have to be on the same page, nor have the same beliefs. Sometimes, friends couldn't be more different, and still, they manage to find something that keeps them together. Those differences, in fact, make friendships stronger. And, in this case, it really helps that everyone involved is unmatchably adorable.
