Holidays as a kid seem like a fun time when you get to play with your cousins and visit your grandparents. But as you grow older, these festivities tend to become something really different from what you remember. Everyone starts fighting over anything; it could be politics, another family member, the fact that your cousin is a vegetarian now, or that your mom forgot to buy what your uncle likes to eat. It becomes a crazy evening when you start looking forward to going back home and resting. But well, at least you get to eat a lot! Not all families act like this, but most certainly do. The holidays aren't fun and games anymore, and it makes you miss the good old days when you sat at the kids' table, and none of this was important to you.
I know all this may not be cheerful and aligned with the whole holiday spirit thing, but not everything has to be bad about the holidays. There are still some pretty cool things. Growing up, I always loved decorating for the holidays; whether it was Halloween or Christmas, I was always looking for new decorations to put around the house. That hasn't changed a bit. I still like buying new decorations to add to my collection, but what I like the most is when my house seems to have the biggest holiday spirit. Even if you are seeing it from the outside, you will get the holiday spirit. I love when people come to my house at the beginning of December, and they realize that I have already filled my house with decorations; that's just how I like to do it.
Last year I decorated the Christmas tree on the 1st and then kept the decorations up until January 20th. I do not regret anything. The holiday spirit is the most beautiful part of all. So let's start celebrating and looking at the bright side of the holidays. Even when everything seems to be a little sad, the important thing is to put our differences aside for a while and enjoy the holidays, but most of all, to appreciate all the food that you will be able to eat on the 26th.
