Two coworkers talk to each other sitting in chairs in the office
Coworker keeps taking credit for my status updates, so I started adding absurd Easter eggs to see if anyone is actually reading them.
Plus, you probably want to keep some amount of peace with your coworkers. You want to feel like you can trust them, not that you always have to look out for them and what they're doing behind your back. This can easily create a toxic feeling workplace. That's exactly what this employee was experiencing when their colleague was constantly taking credit for their work. They were swooping in without them, knowing, and passing off somebody else's work as their own. And getting credit is not just about ego, especially in the workplace. You want to be demonstrating your skills and your abilities to the people you work for, in order to get promotions and in order to get career recognition. It's not something to be messed with. But that didn't stop the coworker in the story who just wanted to play the game on Easy mode. But the coworker who was being stolen from wasn't going to take it lying down. They came up with a way to get back at them without them even knowing it. Sometimes pettiness has its place, especially in the workplace. You can't always be outright, aggressive, and say exactly what's on your mind. That's somewhat discouraged in the modern workplace. But you can find tricky ways around it that get your point across with plausible deniability. That's what this coworker was setting out to do in order to expose their coworker. And they did it in a pretty funny way. Sometimes you need to hear a story about somebody else being petty in order to inspire you and your own pettiness. It's not the healthiest habit to encourage, but it's a good thing to let out every now and again. We can let ourselves be petty if we'd like to. We've deserved it.
