Coworkers constantly exclude colleague from work lunches, they wonder how to bring it up: 'It would mean a lot to be included'

Coworkers have a lunch group without me.

I started my job about two years ago. I heard something about a lunch group with members of my team, but never got asked to join. Today, I heard my boss asking my coworkers why I don't go with them, and someone said "he probably just quit going or didn't want to."
I would actually really like to, but nobody actually ever invited me. It especially bothers me that our new team member, who joined two months ago, started having lunch with them pretty much right away.

I get what happened, they probably all assumed somebody else had asked me, and I declined, but that's not the case. Now I'm just trying to figure out a non-awkward way to say "hey please include me." I know I'll get a lot of "having lunch with your colleagues is overrated", but it would mean a lot to be included.

Anotherams Best way to break the ice is to be the organizer. send out an IM asking if people want to go to lunch next week. Then they will know you are interested.

fallensongbird Lunch time is unpaid time. Let people do what they're going to do. Do your work, clock out, go home. No one is required to invite you to their personal lunch time regardless of how callous that sounds, it's fact.

mis_1022 Personally I would approach just one person alone, someone I felt would be nicest or most receptive, and just ask, hey where do you guys go to lunch, would it be ok if I join today? Most kind people would say oh course come on and you feel like you have an in.
