A woman was organizing a dinner party for six, and she had declined a friend's request to bring a plus-one. The friend ignored this and brought over a man who seemed to think that he would be the host's date for the night.
Out of shock, the woman immediately rejected him and sent him home. She was angry at the assumptions that her friend had made, and the friend was upset that she hadn't given him a chance. She wasn't sure if she had been wrong to react how she did.
Am I wrong for telling a stranger he wasn't actually invited to my dinner party?
Her friend wasn't happy that she had sent away the unexpected plus one.
There is no question that ignoring the unambiguous rejection in the first place was a bad choice on the part of the friend. However, it was also not completely fair that a man who didn't fully understand what was happening got caught in the crossfire. Unexpected guests don't always have to be unwelcome, but the pressure that was put on the host from the start was clearly something that she didn't want to deal with. She only expected to be entertaining her friends, not a potential boyfriend as well.

She shouldn't have ignored the rejection in the first place.
She could have handled things better.
It was all too easy to react instinctively.
