If you don't know, every year for the past 60 years, the countries of Europe (and Australia for some reason) launch a competition of musical acts.
It's essentially an American Idol for the whole continent of Europe. But like injected with fervent nationalism. It's a little insane.
The first round of semi finals began May 19 and it was as enjoyable as always. Full of really interesting music, performances and surprises.
This is another way to understand the Eurovision Song Contest
Also, they mostly sing in English, so don't worry monolingual Americans.
This was last year's winner, Conchita Wurst
Last night, Serbia's entrant Bojana Stamenov belted out this fantastic performance
Belgium's Loïc Nottet performed this catchy song, which received a lot of love
Russia's Polina Gagarina is an early favorite to win the whole thing after this number
This Finnish punk band didn't get to the next round, but they were still great
The band, Pertti Kurikan Nimipäivät, is made up of adults with developmental disabilities and brought the house down with some good ol' fashioned punk rock.
We know you have three hours to spare, so just watch the whole program
The second semi final will air May 21. You can stream it on the Eurovision website.
