Adam "MCA" Yauch, who co-founded pioneering hip-hop group the Beastie Boys with Mike "Mike D" Diamond and Adam "Ad-Rock" Horowitz in 1979, has died. He was 48.
Yauch had been in treatment for cancer since 2009, when doctors discovered a tumor in his salivary gland. In addition to the Beastie Boys, Yauch was heavily involved in the Free Tibet movement and co-organized the Tibetan Freedom Concerts in th '90s.
