On May 3, a woman withdrew 50,000 yuan ($7,945) at the Sichuan branch of Bank of China, then promptly fell into some kind of psychotic break, during which she tore the banknotes to shreds.
Twelve bank officials, working for six hours, have managed to successfully splice back together only one complete 100-yuan bank note.
The woman had planned to use the money for treatment of her mental disorder.
