20 People Share The Brokest Thing They've Ever Done

Money doesn't grow on trees and unfortunately that means that sometimes we don't have enough of it. There are some times in life when you have no other choice but to do what you can. Even if that means dumpster diving or trying to find money inside couches at the Goodwill store. Whether it was during your university days when you were living the famous and nutrition-deprived diet of 2 minute noodles, or when you were a child and you thought it was a fun game to use candles at night instead of spending money using electricity, we have all been through times that tested us to our very limits and made us do things we might not be proud of. These Redditors shared their experiences during the most broke periods of their lives and their stories are relatable as hell.

Text - 13 hours ago Julieatacademy 8.1k points I'm pretty sure that for about 4-6 months around the time I was 8, our meals were coming from my step-dad dumpster diving at the local Safeway. At one point I can remember him breaking down emotionally when we came home one day and someone had left three bags of groceries in our driveway right before Thanksgiving.

Lit candles, cooked food on the grill, opened the windows at night and took cold showers for 3 miserable days to get to the next payday because my now ex was terrible at handling money and we didn't have enough to pay the damn electric bill Kids thought it was great

But then had to put it back and pick up a smaller banana cause I couldn't afford the bigger banan..

Text - WordierThanThou 2.0k points 15 hours ago edited 5 hours ago Carpool with equally broke friends to donate blood at the local blood bank for cash and a free snack "juice and cookie." Edit: $25 for blood, $50 for plasma back in the day and it depends on the need in the area. It was nothing as dramatic as where these comments went. I wasn't a habitual donor. I was in the military and my buddies and I were fresh out of high school. We had no idea how to manage our money. We'd spend all our pay

Text - 15 hours ago Imlistening2 1.6k points Taco Bell used to have 50 cent burritos. I'd stock up on them for the week. Also, my roommate and I would bring Tupperware hidden in our purses to a buffet. We'd eat until we were sick and then fill up the containers.

Text - NHDaddy4U 1.4k points 15 hours ago edited 4 hours ago 1. Shared a can of Dinty Moore Beef Stew with my two roommates. We "heated" it a little with a Zippo lighter and ate it with a SHARED spoon constructed from a coat hanger and the foil inside a pack of Marlboro cigarettes. 2. Made "pancakes" from a stale can of Italian bread crumbs, one egg, and water. Sprinkled them with "Sugar in the Raw" I'd taken from a Dunkin Donuts when I went in to use the bathroom. 3. Ate nothing but packets of

Text - theforlornknight 1.2k points 14 hours ago Put a paper plate in the sink to be washed. Was at a friend's house for D&D and we had some BBQ before hand. Getting cleaned up and I, on reflex, put my paper plate in the sink. Later that night, my friend noticed and says, "Which of you broke mother fuckers put this in the sink?!" It was me. I was the broke mother fucker

Text - 14 hours ago edited 23 minutes ago alicatchrist 1.1k points When I was in college I found a pair of thrown out shoes in front of an apartment. They were soaking wet but otherwise new and were my size. I took them home, washed them in the sink, dried them out, and wore them for two years. I was that broke my shoes had holes in them, so I wasn't going to let free shoes go away....
