The past two years have been pretty difficult on all of us. Almost every ad I get on Instagram or Facebook is about improving my mental health, sometimes with therapy, and sometimes with more experimental (and perhaps fun) programs like ketamine therapy. My friends and I have been on an ongoing quest to find ourselves since that tough first period of isolation. And in the first official trailer for Thor: Love and Thunder, it seems like Thor is doing that, too.
Fans have been waiting for this trailer for what seems like forever, clamoring for a taste of Taika Waititi's latest feature for Marvel Studios. Waititi's last effort with our Asgardian hunk was exciting and action-packed as most Marvel movies are, but its greatest quality are its heart and humor. That theme seems to be continuing as Thor puts down his new axe and goes on a mission to find himself. In the trailer, he says his superhero-ing days are over, and that he wants to figure out his plan. Seems like he'd benefit from some of the mindfulness workbooks I bought during quarantine. While the film is comforting in that it feels a bit relatable for the everyman, it's also nice to see some friendly, familiar faces, like Tessa Thompson's Valkyrie and the Guardians of the Galaxy. If you've been missing Natalie Portman as Jane Foster, you're in for a treat: at the end of the trailer she is finally unveiled as Mighty Thor. While we're going to have to wait until July 8th to see the blockbuster in theaters, we're letting the funny and excited reactions from fans keep up pumped up. Three months may seem like a lot of time, but it will be here before we know it. And we'll be in our seats, ready with plenty of popcorn.
Honestly, we feel this tweet:
