HerpVet, an animal hospital in Australia that specializes in reptiles, came up with a crafty and brilliant way to help Toothless reset her broken jaw! You can read Toothless' full story on their Facebook page!
Toothless and her broken jaw
Toothless, a green tree python, had broken a part of her jawbone while eating.
According to HerpVet, an animal hospital in Australia that specializes in reptiles, "Somehow, during the swallowing process her left lower jawbone folded and got stuck on her throat." This resulted in Toothless having a pretty massive overbite.
The owner of the green tree python quickly rushed Toothless to HerpVet where they were able to take X-rays that revealed a break in her jawbone.
Since surgery would have been too risky, as the bones were much too small and fragile to mend, the brilliant doctors of HerpVet came up with a craft alternative! Snake braces! The vets created the braces by using a paper clip as the eternal brace and affixing it to Toothless' scales using non-toxic glue. It fell off and was re-applied the next day where it stayed long enough for her to heal.
The end result
All healed up! Toothless at her final check-up looking better than ever and "only a single damaged scale to show anything ever happened."
Toothless' owner couldn't be happier!
Thank you to the incredible team at HerpVet!
